Hope you’re all enjoying the bank holiday weekend if you’re in the UK! In a previous blog, I used the fabulous Hardwood background stamp set as the backdrop for falling flowers from the elegant Everything Eleanor set (see A Blessing in My Life). By complete contrast, it is the setting for today’s masculine birthday card. I always find male cards somewhat challenging as I try to keep the style clean and simple without being bland and boring! Hopefully I managed to achieve this here.
I started by stamping my hardwood stamp on shimmery white cardstock in smoky slate. Smoky Slate is one of my favourite colours as it is so beautifully soft and goes with almost anything! I also edged the front panel in smoky slate with a sponge dauber. Next I die cut the ‘happy’ from silver foil sheets using my big shot and the stunning Hello You Thinlets Dies. The font of these words are so beautiful and the words themselves are so versatile, these dies are such a staple for me. I adhered my ‘happy’ using the fine tip glue pen and wrapped some wild wasabi seam binding ribbon (get it by 1st June before it’s gone!) and basic black baker’s twine around the bottom of my panel. Finally, I heat embossed my ‘birthday’ in delightful dijon by first versamarking my stamp from Crazy About You, then inking my versamarked stamp in delightful dijon, and finally embossing with clear embossing powder. This fab technique means you can heat emboss in any colour you choose! Finally I cut my banner using the triple banner punch (another staple!) and adhered this to some delightful dijon cardstock. I mounted my card front to a basic black mat and then to a delightful dijon card base. Love the colours in the card and the wild wasbi colour pop! Hope you like it too.
